As some of you probably know, yesterday was the first Laurelleaves Discussion ever. Check out the trailer if you haven't already:

Five of the greatest participated: Niji, Krelian, Naomi (missfoxie), Kimmy4eva and Selenay! My humble self had the honour to moderate this wonderful funny discussion.

Highlights Discussion 12/20/2006

The discussion started out chilly, became a bit more tense in the middle, and ended up being chilly again (but never boring). The participants probably loved each other too much to get into real arguments. Also all of them were in L/L shippy moods, which rather gave the discussion a homy feel good mood than a heated flamy fight. For that the crowd would have needed a bunch of die-hard Adama/Roslin or Kara/Lee shippers. But none of them were ready to come into the lion's den (or none them knew or wanted to know about the event ;)!

The discussion went into many directions. While discussing about L/L, we also ended up talking about Gaius/Laura and what is happening between those two, this seems to be a very urgent topic at the moment, which I understand. The character of Laura and her romantic and sexual activities hehe were a persistent topic aswell. Niji demanded more kisses for Laura, Sel admitted that she does find it a little irritating that Ron and Co. like Laura virginal. Along the way I ran myself into a dead end with my wrong definiton of "drama queen". What I really wanted to say is that I think Laura is perhaps the most important character on BSG in a dramatic plot sense. I think that the biggest arc plots are planned for her. She isn't a character for a bit fun along the way I fear. That's what I meant.

My personal impression was that a majority of L/L shippers seems to have given up hope that their dream couple will ever get really close on the show. It was interesting that it seems Kimmy4eva never ever considered it that R.Moore would "dare" this. She went even further saying she thinks Laura will not get involved with someone at all. I really hope my gut feeling doesn't leave me on this one and we get many seasons of BSG and Laura&Lee eventually perhaps...ending up together...or let's at least say share a kiss? With Battlestar Galactica and our shippy luck then it's probably the goodbye kiss when one of them is about to die? HA! Christoph still thinks it is not impossible though. As he conclusivly said you never know what's going to happen on the show? An opinion I share completely.

I got the impression that Sel has still a glimpse of hope for Laura/Lee in canon. She never said anything totally pessimistic yesterday, she thinks if they really end up together it could be because Laura is angry with Bill and Lee ends up consoling her. I have to agree on that, I think this could be the L/L shippy canon hope for the next seasons. Christoph's suggestion, of them both ending up in a big emergency situation, alone, end of the world about to happen any minute, is also one of my personal favourites but perhaps too much to hope for! But I want to think that R.Moore IS capable of this! *points to Ron* Naomi had another brilliant one, that she could see them kissing on the show after argueing! So let's hope there is going to be a theme again on which they don't both agree ;)!

Better say let's just hope they will have themes to agree on or not, right? But the hope for proper scenes and plots teaming them up again is still there.

Here the final conclusions of the posters. Alas Niji had to leave the chat before it was over, that's why her conclusion isn't posted here. So is there still hope?

Sel: "Yes. Given the inevitability of conflict with Adama senior and Lee's need for approval, he will turn to Laura"

Naomi: "the future of Laura and Lee having scenes together again is good the future of them becoming a canon couple is not IMO but they will live long and happy and lustful lives in my head and in fan fic

Kimmy4eva: the future of laura/lee is them being together, talking, coming from the same pov, working together and giving some great performances for us to squee over and looks, flirting and lines to conjure up some fun, exciting and interest ideas for what could be!!!

Christoph: hm, I agree, I think there's definitely hope for them being in some more scenes in the future, but it doesn't look like they'll become a couple. I still think it's not impossible though, and we're just at season 3, who knows how many seasons are to follow and what's going to happen then. The situation might change entirely somehow.

Kathi: My conclusion is that the shippers here are already depressed, hehe Yes im hell of optimistic - i think they will kiss...some time later in the series...i think there is something between them... not just in our minds...but in the minds of the characters....BUT as long as the series hasnt ended thats all theory....lets just hope...my gut feeling comes true

All that is left, is hoping that the characters of Laura and Lee will make it inevitable for R.Moore and Co. to bring them together!
